Obituary published in The Republican Banner, Nashville, Davidson CO, TN on Monday, Jan. 10, 1842, as follows:
DIED
At his residence, at M'Lemoresville, Carroll county, on Sunday, the 26th of Dec. 1841, in the 60th year of his age, the Rev. ROBERT HURT, a resident of that place for the last seven or eight years.
The shock which the death of this truly good man has occasioned, has not been confined alone to the circle of his family, the immediate community in which he lived, and the church of which he was for nearly forty years a member, and the greater part of that time, an able, zealous and efficient preacher, but it has extended throughout the whole of West Tennessee in which he was extensively known, and greatly beloved. Parson Hurt removed to this state from Halifax county, Virginia, which county he had represented with ability in the State Legislature. He was a man of strong natural powers and a well cultivated mind. As a preacher, he was always original and interesting; at times, powerful, eloquent and convincing. He was remarkable for clearness of thought and the practical application of every thing he said, whether in the pulpit or in ordinary conversation. As a private gentleman he had few equals, and at his own house, he was the very finest specimen of the old school Virginian gentleman. The writer of this poor tribute, to his memory, has frequently had the good fortune to share his hospitality and kindness, and to admire the many excellent traits of character, which he exhibited peculiarly at home. He has left behind him a large and interesting family, but they sorrow for his loss not as those who have no hope. He died a humble christian, in the full possession of his mental powers, with out the fear of death, but with full confidence that he would shortly "enter into the joy of his master." Certainly, death has gathered to his harvest in the year which was just gone by, few better men than the Rev. Robert Hurt.

I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
