Notes for Nancy HURT
!1. Thomas Cobe, listed in the IGI, was not Nancy's first husband, but was the
spouse of Nancy, daughter of Isaac Hurt of Amelia Co., VA. Nancy of
Madison Co. was reportedly md to an unnamed spouse who, according to his
dau. Louisa, took her own life before she was 6 yrs. old, and her mother
would not tell his name. Record of his existance appears to have been
removed from the records of the area. However, more recent research has
raised suspicions that this husband never existed and that there was no
first marriage. At any rate, there seems to have been a great deal of
family discomfort as to the identity of Louisa's father.
Nancy md.(2) 28 Nov 1826 Enoch Jenkins at Madison Co., VA and reportedly
took her youngest daughter, Lutie to live with them. It is more probable
that Lutie was Louisa's twin and did not live past infancy. Enoch Jenkins
appeared at the time of Louisa's first marriage and gave his consent as
her stepfather.

!3. Marriage records of Madison Co., VA
Notes for Enoch (Spouse 1)
!1. Marriage records of Madison Co., VA pg. 44, FHL# 975.538 V2v.
It is highly likely that he had been previously md. and was considerably
older than Nancy.

I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
