Notes for Spencer W. TATE
Spencer White Tate was born 1843 in Washington County, Virginia to parents James Tate and Martha Jane White. In 1862, he enlisted to fight in the Civil War, in Oregon County, Missouri. 5th Regiment, Missouri Infantry. Spencer was a Confederate Civil War Veteran and fought at the battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. He married Nancy Jane Lock 22 Oct 1867 in Dent, Texas County, Missouri. To this marriage at least four children were born: Charles Palmer Tate, Martha Elizabeth Tate, William David Tate and Robert Freeman "Bob" Tate. For a short time after the Civil War the family lived near Morrilton, Conway County, Arkansas where he helped to build a school house near SNOBALL on the Boston Mountains. Spencer White Tate died 16 Aug 1894 near Foyil and Chelsea, Rogers County, Oklahoma and was buried at Wards Grove Cemetery. Like so many others that were buried there, his sandstone grave marker weathered away many years ago! LEG 10-31-2016

Spencer White Tate was born 1843 in Washington County, Virginia to parents James Tate and Martha Jane White.
