Matthews Ray Briggs, "Mac", age 84 of Greenbrier, TN passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Skyline Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Mac was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and neighbor.
He was born July 14, 1927 in Greenbrier, TN to Vester Samuel & Maggie Lela Hollis Briggs.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer, Carney and Raymond and sisters, Gracie Jones, Bonnie Nash and Mary Cooksey.
He worked at Tennessee Aircraft and at DuPont for 35 years. He retired at age 55.
He enjoyed fishing, farming, driving his tractors and camping. Mac was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
A Celebration of his life will be held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 11 AM with Bro. Mike Cummings officiating.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Mefford Briggs; daughter Rose Briggs Bedwell (Gary), Colleyville, TX; sons, Samuel Ray Briggs(Debbie) & Terry Lee Briggs(Sarah) both of Greenbrier , TN; 6 Grandchildren; Tabitha Lynn Mondrage(Greg), Murfreesboro, TN, Chad Bedwell, Southlake, TX, Shane Briggs, Charleston, SC, Misty McAdams(Billy), Townsville, SC, Lacie Bedwell Betancourt (Arturo), Katy, TX, Lauren Briggs, Greenbrier, TN; 7 Great Grandchildren; Alex Handley & Whitney Mondrage, Cole & Addison Bedwell, Wyatt & Lucas McAdams, Megan Briggs; numerous nephews & nieces.
Mac was happiest when family and extended family members shared his love of his old home place of almost 80 years. He and Dorothy lived, worked and raised their family on the family farm.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, 6-9 PM and on Wednesday 10-11AM the time of the Service.
Interment will follow the service at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Chad Bedwell, Shane Briggs, Earl Beasley, Alex Handley, Curt Crain & Kenneth Cooksey serving as pallbearers.
