George [sic] Washington Patton, son of George W. and America Patton, was born April 26, 1875 and died June 4, 1917, aged 42 years.
He was married to Miss Frances Gill, who preceded him to the grave four years in 1878 [sic]. To them were born four children, three of whom survive them - two boys, Ernest and Wendel, age six, and Frances, age four.
He had been afflicted for more than a year with that fatal disease consumption. He was patient and perfectly resigned, saying he was ready to go when the Lord called him. He talked to his little children, telling them to live right and meet him in Heaven. He asked his mother to keep them together and not separate them.
He was a member of the Baptist Church and lived a faithful Christian life.
His mother, two sisters and three brothers survive him.
His remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery where sleep his wife, father, two sisters, and a brother.
Dear sorrowing ones, weep not, be faithful to the end and meet your dear one in the great beyond, where there will be no suffering.

NOTE: The obituary lists his name as "George" in error as well as the death year of his wife "1878". She died in 1913.
