Notes for John RYAN
In the "History of the Counties of Morgan, Monroe and Brown, Indiana" by Charles Blandchard, 1884, is a biographical sketc of William A. Ryan, the second child of John and Elizabeth Ryan, born September 26, 1825 in Campbell County, Tennessee.  It mentions that "John and Elizabeth were of Irish and Holland descent respectively.  John was educated and married in his native Tennessee, where for many years engaged in agricultural pursuits.  In the spring of 1833, he sold the farm in Tennessee and, with his wife and family, started for Indiana.  But he died on the way at New Albany, Indiana of typhoid fever.  He was buried in New Albandy, Indiana, and where he resided for some eighteen months.  After John Ryan's death in August 1835, the family moved to Owen County Indiana, where they engaged in farming for some four or five years.  They then came to Adams Township, Morgan County, Indiana.  Here the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Ryanoccurred October 3, 1849 in her forty-fifth year (meaning she was born in 1804).  From early life she was a devoted and consistent member of the Missionary Baptist Church."
John Ryan's ancestors came from Tipperary County, Ireland.  They had six children.
