BROOKS, Jim JAMES (JIM) R. BROOKS Mr. James (Jim) R. Brooks graduate of Decatur Boys High and Emory University Business School, retired Assistant VP of American Mutual Insurance Companies, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 after a long bout with cancer. He served in the U. S. Navy aboard LST 993, participating in the invasions of Leyte and Luzon, (Philippine Islands) and Tarakan, and Brunei, Borneo. He was a member of Briarlake Baptist Church of Decatur, Oak Grove Chapter, AARP, American Legion Post 66, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4706, United States LST Association, and former member of National Council of Silver Haired Legislators, Georgia Silver Haired Legislature, National Silver Haired Congress, and former Director and Treasurer-Tuxworth Springs Condominium Association. Mr. Brooks is survived by his sisters, Mary Catherine Brooks, Atlanta, Betty Baker, Decatur, and Peggy Wilkerson, Monroe, NC; aunt, Mrs. Verdelle Inch of Atlanta; and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother B. T. Brooks, Jr. of Cedar Key, FL. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 9th in the Chapel of the Pines at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Rev. Larry Sullivan will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 P.M. Sunday at A. S. Turner & Sons. (404) 292-1551
