CA. 1782; inherited at his mother's death, his paternal home place; m 18 August 1804 ELIZABETH DEWBERRY*, daughter of John Dewberry; the U.S. Census of 1820 shows his family consisted of 5 sons and 3 daughters. *The family of DEWBERRY-spelled in many of the old records DUBERRY-is said to be of swiss origin. In the early years of Halifax County, there were numerous marriages between members of this family and the Tucks. It seems likely that these Halifax Dewberrys are descendants of a family recorded in Charles River Parish, York County, Virginia.
