Mrs. Alice Brakebill Farris, member of an old Knoxvllle family, died late yesterday at St. Mary's Hospital after a week's illness.
Mrs. Farris was 84, and a member of First Baptist Church for most of her life. She was long active in women's circles there. She had lived at Colonial Hotel the last three years and had been able to get about until her last illness.
The aged Knoxvillian was the widow of Samuel Bruce Farris Sr., a partner in the old Farris, Fuller, Crenshaw Co., dry goods jobbers. Her parents, Mr. and I Mrs. John Brakebill, moved here from Blount County when the children were small. The father established a mercantile business here.
Her brother, Carl J. Brakebill was associated in Knaffl & Brakebill, photographers studio, before he retired.
Mrs. Farris also leaves a son, John B. Farris, electronics engineer in Washington, and daughter, Mrs. Dan Spainhower, Castro Valley, Calif.
The body is at Mann’s.
