Notes for David Joseph GOGLIO
David Joseph Goglio, May 13,1937-March 24,2012, resident of San Jose, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully after a long, courageous battle with cancer. David was born in Rockvale, Colorado but moved with his family to Richmond, CA in 1940 so that his parents could work in the Kaiser Shipyards. David enlisted in the Navy in 1956 where he spent a year on the USS Saratoga in the Mediterranean during his three-year service. Upon his return, he went to work as a electrical technician for IBM, where he eventually became a Financial Administrator for the company. He married Loretta, literally the girl next door, in 1962. They moved together to San Jose where he was President of the Sunrise West homeowners association, which led him to join the City Council in 1969. He was instrumental in making sure our neighborhood was developed with Cahalan Park. He was Vice-Mayor of San Jose in 1971-72. Although he has always had a deep passion for politics, he decided life would be much more fulfilling spending his time with his wife and two children. He opted instead to purchase Big Ben Loan Office, the pawn shop he has successfully run since 1973. His love for the business led to his involvement on the Board for the California Pawn Brokers Association. During this time he was a Lifetime Member of the San Jose Elks Lodge 522, the San Jose Elks Golf Club, and was a member of the Hamilton Five's Bowling League for 35 years, and during all of this he managed to get a pilot license and fly his family half way across the country. David was a true and committed friend to all those that surrounded him. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Loretta, children Matthew (Breezy), Shelley (David), grandchildren Emily, Isabella, Amanda, and Owen, brother Don (Patricia), brother in law Ron (Patsy), nephews Michael (Maria), Nicholas (Maris), nieces Terri, Rhonda (Jeff), and faithful companion Simba the Cat. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in Oak Hill's Chapel of Roses. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in memory of David.
