Notes for Viola M. VALENZANO
DALTON, VIOLA M. Viola M. Dalton of Clairemont passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 24, 2008. Born on March 16, 1919, in Florence, Colorado to Dominico and Maria Valenzano, Vi was one of five sisters.

After graduating high school, she joined the Waves and served her country in World War II. She married the love of her life, Leonard Dalton, on May 7, 1945. They moved to San Diego shortly afterwards, where they raised three children.

After leaving the Navy, Viola worked over 30 years as a bookkeeper and office manager for a car dealership which would eventually become City Volkswagen. She was loved by all who knew her, and her generous spirit found larger expression in her work for volunteer organizations such as Catholic Workers and M.A.N.O. She loved learning both from books and people. She delighted in taking courses at S. D. Community College and UCSD. She extended her eclectic love of reading to the classics such as the Bhagauad-Gita and the Homeric Hymns. Her adventurous nature took her to the People's Republic of China in 1980, (the first year it opened to Western visitors), and to Israel, Egypt, and Ireland among other travels.

She is survived by her three children, Tim, Terry and Micaela.

A Memorial Service for Lady Viola Dalton, member of the Equestrian Order Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, will be held at St. Mary Magdelene Catholic Church, 1945 Illion St., on Thursday, March 12th, at 9:00 a.m. An informal Reception in the auditorium will follow. Her ashes will be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery next to her husband of 57 years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.

“I am bound to them though I cannot look into their eyes or hear their voices. I honor their history. I cherish their lives.
I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
