Obituary: Former Layton, Utah and San Luis Valley Colorado resident Agnes Mary Maddux Mott, 86, died June 17, 2011 at a nursing care facility in Mesa, Arizona on June 17, 2011, after spending the last seven months of her life in Arizona.
Agnes was born September 19, 1924, in Alamosa, Colorado to Alva and Pearl D'Avignon Maddux. She graduated from Alamosa High School in 1943, and later met and married Lyle G. Mott in November 1945, after he returned from Europe serving in World War II. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The couple lived a few years in Alamosa before moving to Layton, Utah in 1955 where her husband took a job with the Union Pacific Railroad in Ogden, Utah. Agnes was a homemaker for the many years that they lived in Layton, Utah.
Her interests included reading, gardening, quilting, knitting, bowling, and especially family history genealogical work where she devoted much of her time and energy.
In her earlier years she enjoyed dancing to the "Big Band Era" music. Agnes loved to please others by cooking and her excellent handiwork.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in various positions from Children's Primary teacher to Family History Instructor.
Agnes is survived by one brother, James Maddux (Nina) of Peoria, Ariz., and two sisters Irene Mott of Mesa, Ariz., and Esther Rich of Columbia, Tenn.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Graveside services will be held at the Sanford, Colorado cemetery at 11 a.m. on
Thursday, June 23, 2011.

Lyle Grant Mott, 82, of Layton, Utah, died peacefully at his home on July 6, 2002, of complications relating to cancer. He was born January 3, 1920, at La Jara, Colorado. Lyle was the fourth child born to Joseph Elmer and Annie Prudence Mott and one of eight brothers and five sisters.
He is survivied by his wife, Agnes Mary Maddux Mott. They were married November 25, 1945, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Lyle was retired f rom the Union Pacific Railroad in January, 1980. He was a veteran of World War II, Compnay B, 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion.
Lyle was a part of General patton's 3rd Army serving 2 years overseas in the European Theatre of Operations, and 11 months in active combat duty including Five Campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), and Central Europe. His early years were spent in farming activities in and around the Carmel District, near La Jara, Colorado, the place of his birth. Lyle was a fan of baseball and bowled in several leagues.
