Notes for James Henry RYAN
Death Takes Jams H. Ryan

James H. Ryan, a pioneer resident of El Dorado Springs and vicinity, died at this home in this city Sunday, October 8. The son of wiley J. and mahala Ryan, he was born in Texas county, Mo. September 9, 1861, and was 78 years old.

He was married July 25, 1880, to Della Smith, who died about four years ago. There were seven children born to this union, four sons and three daughters, three of whom proceded him in death. Those surviving are Tom Ryan, Charles Ryan, Mrs. Olie Kidd and Hrs. Blanche Flannigan, all of the home address. He also leaves two brothers and two sisters, Robert Ryan of Kansas, Gilbert Ryan and Mrs. J. R. ford of this vicinity, and Mrs. Nellie Mathews of Colorado. He also leaves ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Ryan had been in failing health for some time and his death was not unexpected. He was a member of the Assembly of God church, which he joined thirty-six years ago, having been converted in the first meeting here by that denomination.

Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon at the Gwinn-Sadern funeral home in this city and were conducted by Rev. Mack Hurst, pastor of the Assembly of God church. Burial was in the cemetery at Katterman, in Vernon county.

RYAN: Irish: simplified form of Mulryan. Irish: reduced form of O’Ryan, an Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Riagháin (modern Irish Ó Riain) ‘descendant of Rian’; Ó Maoilriain ‘descendant of Maoilriaghain’, or Ó Ruaidhín ‘descendant of the little red one’. Ryan is one of the commonest surnames in Ireland; there has been considerable confusion with Regan. KaM Americanized spelling of German Rein. EG

I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
