Notes for Marstin (Spouse 1)
Marstin Tuck was born on 25 January 1799 in Halifax County, Virginia. He married in Halifax County to Louisa Robinson, who was born in 1804 in North Carolina. They lived in Halifax County where all eleven of their children were born. Then in 1854 he and his family moved to Georgia, joining all of his brothers and one sister who had migrated to Georgia before him. They settled in Clarke County and lived there the rest of their lives. The community in Clarke County that they settled in grew (Marstin and Louisa had eleven children) and came to be known as Tuckston. An article, “A History of Tuckston United Methodist Church, Founded in 1889” by James Hefner and Elsa Ann Johnson, reveals that Marstin Tuck’s son John Robinson (b. 1846) and his wife Susan Elizabeth Pittard Tuck (1842-1910) were among the founders of Tuckston and started a school and Sunday school there. Marstin, like his father, was afflicted with poor vision in his old age. Marstin Tuck, like his father, was afflicted with poor vision in his old age. He died on 19 June 1890, and his wife Louisa died in 1870.

The facts presented came from Alethea Jane Macon’s book, John and Edward Tuck of Halifax County, Virginia and Some of Their Descendants; A History of Tuckston United Methodist Church, Founded in 1889 written by James Hefner and Elsa Ann Johnson; and from stories shared by Barbara Hathaway and Lenda Tuck on Ancestry.com.

I will tell their story. I will remember them for I am the result of the very love, struggle, sacrifice and journey of thousands.”
