"DEATH OF JOHN PITMAN HE WAS 85 YEARS OLD AND THE FATHER OF SIXTEEN CHILDREN"
"John Pitman who came here during the past year to live with his son-in-law F. Roberts of this city, died this morning. The deceased was 85 years of age and his advanced age coupled with his sufferings from a cancer of the stomach caused his death. Mr. Pitman was an excellant gentleman and a man of splendid character and was esteemed by those who knew him. He leaves a wife and sixteen children to mourn his death, amoung whom is Mrs. Roberts of this city." [Harriet notes that she knows of only fifteen children.]
