++++++++ Information from: Sylvia R. Williams, daughter of Warren "Offie Shely". 3 June 1998 via telephone conversation. Susannah Shely was her grandmother. Susannah Rutledge named the community of Fairfiew when she built her house on a hill on the homestead and she could see the area from her home. It was a fair view. Susannah Rutledge Shely went to Kentucky and brought back home 80 brood mares and 2 stud steel dusk registered stallions from Kentucky. That is where the Shely's got their racing blood. And where the areas in Texas got their stock. She is 86 years old. Susannah and daughter, Theodosia died in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ray, Fairview, Texas. Susannah's grandmother was a sister to Mr. Ray's wife. We had a family reunion up here on the river and the Rays came to the reunion. Monte Ray Shely, my nephew, her oldest brother's boy, who is dead now, went down with Don Benton, and he introduced Monte to Mr. Ray. And Mr Ray said, "Oh, your name is Shely. He said, "Yes, sir, I am Aubrey Shely's son". Well your grandmother is buried right down there (meaning Shely Cemetery) Her baby sister, Mary Oma Shely, her granddaughter is coming from Deming New Mexico.

.The Shely Cemetery is located on John S. Shely original land patent from the State of Texas. From IH 37, take the Hardy Road exit, about 12 miles north of Pleasanton, Texas. It is about a mile from the turn off heading east. It is on private property and permission is needed to view the area. It is in the middle of a field on the property now owned by Lewis Hayden. After taking with a number of individuals, there seems to have been at one time about 50 graves. Sometime before the previous owner took over the land, all the tombstone have been knocked down; run over by a bush hog as I was told by the local people. There is not one stone standing. There are 5 stone visible but only 1 stands upright. The 5 stones that I found was #1 John S. Shely (was buried but we uncovered, broken into pieces), Susan Shely, top part broken and lying on ground), Theadosia Totty, wife of Charles Totty (daughter of John S. Shely and Susan Rutledge), Raymond Lee Fleming, and Dorothy Marie Shely, daughter of Warren Leslie Shely. Dorothy Marie Shely's stone was placed there last year by her brother, Ule Shely.
