Jeremiah Wood, formerly of Halifax Co, VA, lived there on the land and farmed for John Stanley during the years 1813, 1814 and 1815. The farm was situated 1 mile and a quarter east of Halifax Courthouse. After that he was an overseer for a widow Major in the vicinity. About 1822 he and his wife went to Patrick Co, VA. Mrs. Wood’s mainden name was Elizabeth Stanley and they were married Mar 18, 1813. In 1879 she was 84 years old, born in 1795. Jeremiah Wood was a native of Pittsylvania Co, VA, near a place called Laurel Grove. Mrs. Wood was a half-sister of Luke Stanley and Isham Stanley, both of whom were in the War of 1812. In 1831 Jeremiah Wood moved to Jackson Co, MO, where he died in 1847.
