Notes for Jacob D. "Dee" NEWMAN
In 1862, when Jacob was sixteen, he enlisted in Company D, 2nd Tennessee Cavalry, East Tennessee, USA. After being wounded in the thigh, he received an honorable discharge in 1866. Jacob and his family migrated to Missouri about 1884. They came with a John Galloway and a Braekbill family. They lived in Douglas County and then in Greene County before moving on to Oklahoma when the Strip opened. Jacob was a Federal Marshall in the Oklahoma Indian Territory. His son, William Alfred Newman, succeeded him as Federal Marshall. Page 6647
